The Comments Are Broken

glitter 2.jpg

I am experiencing technical difficulties with my blog here.  The comments are broken and I can't see how it happened.  Ever since posting the self destruct post I started getting nasty spam (just on that one post) and was spending all day deleting the nasties.

Isn't that ironic?  (Considering the nature of the post?)

Doesn't it also seem coincidental?

Anyway, sometimes I write a post that only gets one or two comments and that's not so unusual.  What's unusual is to have two posts in a row getting no comments.  I'm not vain or anything, but that has never happened.  When I get one post with no comment it looks so lonely to me that I usually comment to myself.  Just so the post won't feel so left out.

So I tried and couldn't post a comment to my own blog.

This blog platform is very complicated for non-technical people like me to use.  My very good friend Angela set it up for me failing to realize that I'm not a genius like she is.  So this morning I've been thinking about starting over.  Fresh.  With Wordpress.  but a new blog.  Same content but something fresh to symbolize the great changes that have occurred in my life since starting Dustpan Alley when it was mostly about running my store.  I would ask you all right now if you would be willing to follow me but I can't because the comments are broken and I don't know how to fix it.

It was so hard to move everything to this template from Blogger and it didn't happen smoothly either.  So I don't relish moving it all again.  This is three year's worth of posts.

986 posts ago I started Dustpan Alley.

However, I have to talk to my bosses and my people at Blogher first because I don' t know what my choices are with my network.

Meanwhile Stitch and Boots is not only easy to use (it's theme is Wordpress) but in 6 months I have more traffic there than I've ever had here.  This makes sense since the only topic covered is urban homesteading.  That proves that people prefer single topic blogs.  Of course I have to say that it wouldn't have gotten the steady traffic it has if it weren't for all of you loyal readers who go there to lend your weight- for which I am very thankful!

Don't worry though- I will not stop writing the content I write here- I'll just have to see what I can do with my situation.  I'd really like to be using a template I understand and that is non-techie friendly.

It would be really nice to figure out how to fix the comments so you could all tell me your thoughts on this.  I'm going to ask for Angela's help, but she's going to pop a baby out in a few weeks and I hardly expect her to come running to my aid.

So- fingers crossed on all counts!

Update:  My friend Angela, who built this lovely blog, and who is very VERY pregnant and tired tonight fixed the comments so we're all functional AND it is clear that I just need to learn to use this template to better effect.  So I'm not going to change urls or the blog name or anything.  Best thing to do when you're frustrated by a lack of knowledge and know how?  LEARN MORE.  Them there's my words of wisdom for the night.  Thank you Angela!!!!

Your comments are now working. Thank you for your patience.
~Angela ;-)

We keep sending messages across each other- very funny stuff late at night. You go to bed now and take it easy- I will give you some jam and whatever else you ask for your work!

Awesome, missed being able to put my 2c worth in.

Thank you, Angela

Kind Regards
Belinda

dawn:

I am all about the WordPress. So is Kelly. I never ever ever have problems with spam and the only time my blog breaks is when I've broken it (because I love to tinker). I don't know if you're on the typepad server or if you're hosting your own MT install but Wordpress.org (the software you host on your own account) is easy easy easy and very customizable and if you wanted to become a tech geek you could. That's how easy WordPress is. I LOVE it.

I like your two cents too, Belinda!

Dawn- I really like Wordpress, I use it for my other blog Stitch and Boots and find it very easy to use. I host my own blogs on Blue Who. If I do change Dustpan Alley to a different platform I would use Wordpress. But this blog was such a pain to transfer- it is three years old and has so much content on it- oy! I'd rather not move it if I don't have to. So I'm hoping to just learn to use Moveable Type. Hey, I meant to check out your blog and didn't. I'm working right now but later I'll hop over and say hi.

Thank you for all your comments, but the time for comments is now over. Comments have been turned off on the entire site.
